DEPO-MEDROL – 20 ML (ZOETIS) (METHYLPREDNISOLONE ACETATE) or depomedrol is an anti-inflammatory steroid used to treat certain allergies, skin conditions, and types of arthritis. It is a corticosteroid of long duration. Methylprednisolone acetate is a drug that exceeds prednisolone in anti-inflammatory potency and with a lower tendency to retain sodium and water.

Methyl prednisolone acetate: 40 mg
Polyethylene glycol: 29 mg
Sodium chloride: 8.7 mg
Myristil gamma-picolinium chloride: 0.195 mg
Sterile water for injection, c.b. 1 ml.
DEPO-MEDROL – 20 ML is indicated as antiarthritic, antiasthmatic and antiallergic for small species and horses.
It is indicated in rheumatic diseases, dermatological diseases, allergies, haematological disorders like anemia, ophthalmic diseases like herpes, respiratory (tuberculosis), gastrointestinal like colitis, enteritis.
Horses and Camels: localized acute arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, traumatic arthritis, osteoarthritis, periostitis, tendinitis, synovitis, bursitis, myositis, generalized muscle pains, depressive and anorexic states as a consequence of transportation or excessive exercise.
DEPO-MEDROL – 20 ML DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Horses: The average intramuscular dose is 200 mg per animal (10 ml) if repeated. The injections can be administered at intervals of one week or according to the severity of the disease and the clinical response.
Intra-articular: After cleaning the area, under asepsis and sterile measurements, the mean initial dose for a large synovial space is 120 mg with variations between 40 and 240 mg.
The intratendinous dose oscillates between 80 and 400 mg according to the size of the tendon. For periostitis the dose in multiple injections is from 10 to 120 mg in several sites of the inflamed zone.
SUGGESTED RACING DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Horses / Camels: 2 ml or 3 ml 5 days before the race. IM. If the use of methylprednisolone acetate is not allowed, stop 7 days before the race.
